FLOWING, EXTENDING

TIME, SPACE AND PEOPLE

This project examines the extension and activity of time and space by exploring a new possibility between science and art. Through different materials, the installation shows the transitions of time and defines the space with time.

Art is a bold experiment of life, a proposition to life. This installation extend the virtual time and solid space experimentally. It emphasizes the space which is constructed by the uncertainty of every moment. Through different materials and structures, it introduces the movement of light, color, and temperature, which forces visitors to stop, gather, and discuss. Creating an unexpected encountering, and gazing the moment of transiency.

Change of Time - Seconds

The mirrored aluminum plate reflects the museum in seconds, extending its image, providing the viewer with a virtual entrance that can be accessed. The opposite side reflects the viewer and the space, and the viewing is also viewed.

Change of Time - Day

The green mat is used to introduce soft materials in the space, and a simple scientific device is used to change the color of the installation by the plant's photosynthesis behavior.

Education - Photosynthesis

The transparent acrylic water pipe is bundled and fixed along the structure. The Bromothymol blue solution in the tube changes color with the oxygen and carbon dioxide generated by the respiration and photosynthesis of the plant during the day.

Engineering Aesthetics

Using the scaffolding to combine different materials. Exploring the aesthetics in engineering, with its regularity, and stabilization.

Spaces and Materials

Through the four-layer materials and the gradual change of spatial characteristics, the viewer is forced to stay and move in it, and feel different time scales. The virtual time is expressed in the space, so that the viewer can be placed in the time, combined with the natural phenomenon and the artificial design arrangement.

The transformation of time, space, and people is reflected on the huge wall, like a huge canvas displays the most subtle changes, proposing a new definition of art installation.

Discover, Experience, Discuss

The green walls inside the installation connects to several acrylic pipes on the outer wall. These pipes are filled with acid-base indicator(Bromthymol Blue) and will change the colors from yellow to blue depends on the photosynthesis of the greens inside. These colored pipes become a unique art piece which intensifies the feeling and experiment of time. The layers of space make visitors travel between virtual and real. It forces them to discover and think, gaze the uncertainty of time.

The mirror wall of the entry reflects the entry of the museum, which extends a way of entering to the museum while it is closed for renovation.

Virtual / Real

The reflective material reflects the image of the illusory museum, and the virtual image guide visitors enter to the real space.

Hard / Soft

The dense and opaque wall separates the museum and the surrounding area. When the material is lighter, making the changes around it more obvious.

Context Plan

Cold / Warm

By bringing in soft materials and strengthening the interaction with the environment, the installation soften the icy and seriousness of the art museum.

Meet / Gaze

The installation provides visitors to encounter, enter, watch, stay, interact, gaze, discuss the possibilities of art.
